Although the best times to visit
Athens are the early fall and late
spring, the month of August presents
its own advantages. August is
considered the "national" vacation
month for Athenians who leave the city
in favor of their villages or the
islands. Traffic subsides, crowds
disappear, corporations close for
summer vacation, museums and sites are
easily accessible and open daily.
Some retail shops may be closed on
August 15th, a major religious holiday. This
is the time Coral Hotel in Athens
offers afforadable rates and room deals.
Please be aware of some drawbacks:
August may be a hot month with
temperatures rising into the 40's C
(105 F). However, conveniently blowing
summer breezes called "meltemi" blow
from the north and north-west offering
relief. It is best to plan activities
and sightseeing early in the morning.
In addition, some restaurants and
shops may be closed. But there is
always plenty to do. We will be happy
to assist you or you may follow the

Guides.
